Trauma-Informed Child Development and Early Childhood Education
Provides trauma-informed infant, toddler, and preschool care for young children experiencing homelessness or maltreatment. The program utilizes creative curriculum and individualized developmental assessments while supplying essentials such as meals, diapers, formula, and clothing.
Eligibility: Serves children ages 6 weeks to 6 years (or 6 weeks to 5 years depending on program tier) whose families are experiencing homelessness or have an open case with DCFS/Department of Social Services due to abuse or neglect. Homeless families must lack a fixed nighttime residence and show child development need (seeking housing, seeking work, vocational training, or employed).
Application: Requires an agency referral. Families with an open DCFS case require a signed referral on agency letterhead from their DCFS social worker. Homeless families require a signed referral on agency letterhead from an authorized agency or shelter, or a written parental homelessness declaration along with documentation of need. Referrals and waitlist inquiries may be submitted by email, phone at (562) 997-8803, or fax at (562) 997-8807.
Fees: Services are free of charge for most qualifying families. If household income exceeds specified state thresholds, sliding scale monthly fees apply pursuant to the California Department of Education family fee schedule.
